Newly crowned IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook is in stable condition after being stabbed in the leg Thursday morning in Tenerife, an island off he coast of Spain. Brook was on vacation with his wife who is pregnant with their second child. According to Times boxing correspondent Ron Lewis, Brook suffered at least one stab wound and cuts to his arm at an apartment. He then staggered 100 yards to another apartment complex and lost a lot of blood.

This is the second time that Kell Brook has been stabbed. The first time occurred after an incident in his hometown of Sheffield, England in 2007. Brook won the IBF World Welterweight title on August 16 defeating Shawn Porter by majority decision in Carson, California. He was set to make his first defense of the title on December 6 against an opponent to be determined. It is unknown if the scheduled December title fight will be postponed, but it’s safe to guess that fight will be pushed back because of today’s incident.
