Gonzalez Stops Yaegashi in Nine To Win WBC Flyweight Title

Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (40-0, 34 KOs) became a three-time. three-division world champion on Friday as he stopped Akira Yaegashi (20-4, 10 KOs) in nine rounds in Tokyo, Japan to win the WBC Flyweight championship. A highly anticipated fight among us hardcore fans, Yaegashi tried to box Gonzalez early, but the accuracy, precision, and power of Gonzalez ultimately proved too much. Gonzalez knocked down Yaegashi in towards the end of round three via short left hand, and pretty much had his way throughout. Yaegashi fought hard and landed his share of shots, but “Chocolatito” showed why he’s an elite fighter and one of the best boxers in the world right now. With this win, it sets up the possibilities for some big fights for Gonzalez including a rematch against current WBA/WBO Flyweight champ Juan Francisco Estrada (Gonzalez beat Estrada by hard-fought unanimous decision back in Nov. 2012) or a potential fight down the road against young phenom Naoya Inoue who defended his WBC Jr. Flyweight title on the undercard of Yaegashi – Gonzalez as he stopped Samartlek Kokietgym in eleven rounds. And here’s a bonus, I’ve found a copy of the fight so you can watch Gonzalez TKO win over Yaegashi. Watch, and enjoy one of the best fighters in the world display his skills.
