A Boxing Weekend of Drama!!!

As all boxing fans know by now, this weekend was quite fascinating and will have fans of The Sweet Science talking back and for a while recapping what occurred. And for sure the dreaded word “controversy” will brought up in those upcoming discussions. Let the boxing dialogue commence!

The big event of the this past weekend was Gennady “GGG” Golovkin facing off against Daniel Jacobs Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City with Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez fighting Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand as the co-main event, all on HBO PPV. For those expecting just a couple of ho-hum fights… WRONG. While Golovkin ended up winning by unanimous decision, Jacobs (32-2, 29 KO’s) gave Golovin (37-0, 33 KO’s) the toughest fight of his career with many feeling afterwards that Jacobs deserved the decision. And as for Roman Gonzalez (46-1, 38 KO’s), not only did Rungvisai (42-4-1, 38 KO’s) give a helluva fight, the Thai fighter ended up upsetting “Chocolatito” by majority decision in what can only be considered a big upset.

Immediately following those bouts Saturday night I joined friend and fellow boxing geek Wingy Boxing to discuss all that went down at MSG. We broke down Golovkin’s close win over Jacobs and Rungvisai’s upset win over “Chocolatito”. Lastly we gave our opinion on some future bouts that are coming up on the boxing calendar.

  1. Enjoyed the discussion thoroughly, gentlemen. Well reasoned and perceptive – and I speak as one of your few listeneres who was there in the Garden covering the card.
