Naoya Inoue Returns to the Ring For a Special Public Sparring Session

Pound 4 Pound Boxing Report has learned that current WBA Bantamweight champion and Japanese boxing superstar Naoya Inoue took part in a special three round exhibition against former world Featherweight title challenger Genesis Servania this past Sunday at the Sangyo Hall in Kanazawa Japan.

Both Inoue (16-0, 14 KO’s) and Servania (31-1, 14 KO’s) have sparred each other in the past and this particular sparring session was fast-paced and intense. Little was held back by either men as both fighters looked sharp. This was a treat for the Japanese fans as they witnessed Inoue, considered one of the best fighters in the world pound 4 pound take part in a public sparring session against a high quality fighter (Servania is ranked 10th by the WBC, and 3rd by the WBA and IBF at Featherweight) who gave current WBO Featherweight champion Oscar Valdez all he could handle during an unsuccessful title try in September of last year.

In an interview after the sparring session, Inoue revealed that his upcoming bout against Juan Carlos Payano (20-1, 9 KO’s) in the upcoming WBSS Bantamweight tournament would take place in October. While no specific date was announce, Inoue’s announcement gives validation to Leon Margules (president of Warriors Boxing) telling the TASS Russian News Agency that WBA Super Lightweight champion Kiryl Relikh’s (who Margules promotes) upcoming title defense against no. 1 contender Eduard Troyanovsky (Relikh – Troyanovsky is part of the WBSS Super Lightweight tournament) will take place on October 7 in Yokohama, Japan.

It is presumed that Relikh – Troyanovsky would on the undercard of the upcoming Inoue – Payano bout. We will keep you informed on further developments and the official date for Naoya Inoue’s upcoming bout against Juan Carlos Payano.
