Last Saturday in Orlando, FL Emmanuel Rodriguez defended his IBF Bantamweight title defeating Jason Moloney by split decision during third quarterfinal of the WBSS Bantamweight tournament. In attendance to do some scouting was current WBA Bantamweight Naoya Inoue who destroyed Juan Carlos Payano earlier this month during his WBSS Bantamweight tournament quarterfinal bout.

Rodriguez and Inoue are now set to fight each other during the semi-final round of the WBSS tournament. While the date and specific locale of the bout has yet to be announced, 3KingsBoxing has learned that the Inoue vs. Rodriguez bout will take place in the U.S.

In Japan yesterday upon his return from witnessing Rodriguez win over Moloney Inoue spoke with the local press and revealed he’s expecting his upcoming bout with Rodriguez to take place in the United States in the Spring of 2019. This sentiment was repeated by his promoter Hideyuki Ohashi. Inoue also disclosed that Rodriguez would be the best opponent that he’s faced so far in his career, applauding Rodriguez on his use of angles, his skills and his technique. Despite the high praise given to his upcoming opponent, Inoue also told the Japanese press that he did note some flaws with Rodriguez.

Naoya Inoue made his U.S. debut as part of the HBO SuperFly3 card in Sept. 2017 (stopping Antonio Nieves in six rounds). Over the last year, the legend and myth of Inoue has seemed to only grow with his move up to Bantamweight blasting out Jamie McDonnell to win the WBA Bantamweight title as well as his recent destruction of Payano. U.S. hardcore boxing heads have been wondering and anticipating the opportunity to see the Japanese dynamo fight in the States again. Well folks, will get that opportunity next Spring, CAN’T WAIT!
