Donnie Nietes vs. Kazuto Ioka Rumored to take place in December

Nietes vs Ioka

By. BrotherJR

September 11, 2018

This past weekend Donnie Nietes and Kazuto Ioka fought on separate bouts at The Forum in Inglewood, California as part of SuperFly3. Nietes was on the receiving end of controversial draw against Aston Palicte for the vacant WBO Super-Flyweight title while Ioka won in impressive fashion over McWilliams Arroyo. Pound 4 Pound Boxing Report has now learned there are formative steps taking place for Nietes and Ioka to fight each other in December.

According to sources in Japan, plans are being made for Ioka (23-, 13 KO’s) to the ring at the end of this year with the plan is for him to face Nietes (41-1-5, 23 KO’s) for the vacant WBO Super-Flyweight title. A Nietes – Ioka bout would make sense for multiple. 1. Ioka’s win over Arroyo (ranked 3rd by the WBO at 115 lbs at the time) would assure him a high ranking by the WBO while would presumably retain his current No. 1 WBO ranking despite his draw with Palicte this past weekend. 2. Assuming this bout takes place, the winner would become a four-time, four-division world champion. 3. A battle between the two would accomplish each fighter’s desires of a big-money fight at 115 lbs.

Japan usually has multiple boxing cards at the end of the year, and there is already a schedule event scheduled to take place at the Kyokugen Hall in Tokyo on New Year’s Eve. Given that Ioka has no issue getting a license from the Japanese Boxing Commission (who is technically is without a Japanese Boxing license), a potential fight with Nietes could take place there. If not, there is a possibility of such fight happening in the Philippines though that may be difficult due to financial matters.

For those asking what about Palicte, the man Nietes just fought for the vacant title? Early assumption is that he would fight the winner of a Nietes – Ioka bout as part of SuperFly4 which promoter has stated would take place in the Spring of 2019 on HBO. P4PBoxingReport will keep you updated with any further developments on this potential Super-Flyweight superfight.

Naoya Inoue Returns to the Ring For a Special Public Sparring Session

Inoue sparring

August 21, 2018

Pound 4 Pound Boxing Report has learned that current WBA Bantamweight champion and Japanese boxing superstar Naoya Inoue took part in a special three round exhibition against former world Featherweight title challenger Genesis Servania this past Sunday at the Sangyo Hall in Kanazawa Japan.

Both Inoue (16-0, 14 KO’s) and Servania (31-1, 14 KO’s) have sparred each other in the past and this particular sparring session was fast-paced and intense. Little was held back by either men as both fighters looked sharp. This was a treat for the Japanese fans as they witnessed Inoue, considered one of the best fighters in the world pound 4 pound take part in a public sparring session against a high quality fighter (Servania is ranked 10th by the WBC, and 3rd by the WBA and IBF at Featherweight) who gave current WBO Featherweight champion Oscar Valdez all he could handle during an unsuccessful title try in September of last year.

In an interview after the sparring session, Inoue revealed that his upcoming bout against Juan Carlos Payano (20-1, 9 KO’s) in the upcoming WBSS Bantamweight tournament would take place in October. While no specific date was announce, Inoue’s announcement gives validation to Leon Margules (president of Warriors Boxing) telling the TASS Russian News Agency that WBA Super Lightweight champion Kiryl Relikh’s (who Margules promotes) upcoming title defense against no. 1 contender Eduard Troyanovsky (Relikh – Troyanovsky is part of the WBSS Super Lightweight tournament) will take place on October 7 in Yokohama, Japan.

It is presumed that Relikh – Troyanovsky would on the undercard of the upcoming Inoue – Payano bout. We will keep you informed on further developments and the official date for Naoya Inoue’s upcoming bout against Juan Carlos Payano.
