Breaking News… Andy Ruiz has agreed to terms to fight Anthony Joshua June 1st

April 29, 2019

Ever since April 16th when Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller tested positive for a banned substance for his upcoming fight against WBA/WBO/IBF Heavyweight Anthony Joshua on June 1 at MSG, there has been a mad scramble as to would replace “Big Baby” to fight Joshua

It was an unfortunate and stupid move on Miller’s part to go the route of taking PED’s. What’s his loss will be someone’s gain as we now know will will be the substitute opponent for one “Big Baby”?

Today we learned that Andy Ruiz, Jr. (32-1, 21 KO’s) has agreed to terms to fight Joshua in June at MSG. Ruiz is a former world title challenger and is currently ranked 11th by the WBA and 15th by the IBF.

Originally Team Joshua tried to make a fight against Luis Ortiz, but negotiations fell through. Ruiz then took initiative as he went to twitter calling for a shot against “AJ”, and he was granted for what in effect was his trolling on twitter with a second world title shot.

All things considered, Ruiz is a decent replacement for “Big Baby” Miller. Though not the most impressive looking fighter as far as his physique is concerned. However when it comes to based skill-set, Ruiz can fight and will provide a decent test for Joshua.

Ryota Murata announces plans to continue Boxing

Former Middleweight champion Ryota Murata announces plans to continue his career

By. BrotherJR

December 4, 2018

Following October 20th defeat to Rob Brant and losing the WBA Middleweight title, Ryota Murata contemplated whether he should continue with his boxing career. At a press conference earlier today, Murata gave an update on his future.

Earlier today at the Teiken Gym in Tokyo, Murata (14-1, 11 KO’s) announced that he would indeed continue with his career. While it seemed a foregone conclusion Murata would fight on, at today’s presser the former champion disclosed something quite different. Immediately following his loss to Brant, Murata stated he was ready to call it a day. “After the bout, I was 98% sure that I would quit. I was just so disappointed in my boxing. I didn’t land a single blow that could have turned that bout”.

It was after further reflection Murata said he could not end his career on such a sour note. “I questioned if I would be alright with that bout being the culmination of my career when I look back on my life. I want to be a boxer who can compete at the world level once again, I can’t finish like this”.

During his loss to Brant in Las Vegas Murata was soundly defeated and dominated by Brant who threw 500 more punches during the bout. Murata couldn’t get off and had no response to the high punch rate of Brant.  Akihiko Honda, head of the Teiken Gym disclosed that Murata was not fully prepared as he was slowed down due to a fever.

While there is no timetable for when exactly Murata will next appear in the ring, it was revealed during the press conference that Murata will return to hard training and it’s anticipated that he will return to the ring sometime during the first half of 2019.

By. BrotherJR

November 19, 2018

IBF/WBA/WBC Middleweight champion Claressa Shields has been added HBO’s final boxing broadcast on December 8 at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA. Shields (7-0, 2 KO’s) will face WBO Women’s Super-Middleweight champion Femke Hermans (9-1, 3 KO’s) as the opening bout of HBO’s final show which will be an HBO After Dark special.

Having just fought over the weekend defeating Hanna Rankin by 10 unanimous decision in Mulvane, Kansas this is quick turnaround for Shields. Shields will be returning to the ring just three weeks later against Rankins who will be move down in weight to challenge for Shields Middleweight titles.

While it’s sad that HBO Boxing is coming to an end, for women’s boxing adding Shields to HBO’s final show is a very good look. Shields-Femke will be a part of a card that also features undisputed women’s Welterweight Cecilia Braekhus who will the headliner of HBO’s final show defending her titles against Aleksandra Magdziak-Lopez. So, what you have is arguably the number 1 and 2 pound-4-pound women’s boxers in the world fighting on the same card.
