Pound 4 Pound Boxing Report  has learned that on Tuesday, Top Rank announced the signing of Japanese Jr. Welterweight contender Hiroki Okada. The Tokyo, Japan born and raised Okada will make his Top Rank (and U.S.) debut on September 14 in Fresno, California on the undercard of WBC Jr. Welterweight champion Jose Ramirez title defense Antonio Orozco.

Top Rank signs Hiroki Okada

Currently ranked in the top 10 by all major sanctioning organizations (no. 9 by the WBC, no. 4 by the WBA, no, 5 by the IBF, no. 4 by the WBO), Okada’s (18-0, 13 KO’s) opponent for his Top Rank debut will be against Cristian Rafael Coria (27-6-2, 11 KO’s). Should Okada defeat Coria next month, could this lead to an eventual shot against WBC Jose Ramirez (if Ramirez successfully defends his title against Orozco) at some point in 2019? Only time will tell.

A former Japanese as well as WBO Asia Pacific Jr. Welterweight champion, the best win on Okada’s record is a 6th round stoppage over Jose Pagara in December 2017 in Tokyo. An orthodox fighter with good height for the Jr. Welterweight division (5’9”) Okada is a boxer-puncher who can fight on the front and back foot. The feeling among Japanese boxing observers has been that as good as Okada has looked, he the ability to raise his game and fight at higher level.

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai To Fight Iran Diaz In October

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai1

August 3, 2018

On February 24, 2018 WBC Super Flyweight Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai fought mandatory contender Juan Francisco Estrada. In what turned out to be a terrific contest, Rungvisai defeated Estrada by majority decision. Ever since that exciting battle folks have been asking, will we see a Rungvisai rematch? Well, not yet so far.

After his win over Estrada, Rungvisai went on an extended break to deal with personal and business matters. On the personal side Rungvisai was dealing with a heavy heart due to the breakup with his fiancée (Rungvisai has subsequently got engaged to a different lady). And on a business note the champ (already signed with Nakornloung Promotions) was negotiating a co-promotional deal with ONE Championship Promotions.

After returning to the ring on July 21st with a 1st round stoppage win over Young Gil Bae in Thailand, 3KIngsBoxing has learned that Srisaket Sor Rungvisai will return to the ring  on October 6, defending his WBC Super Flyweight title against Iran Diaz (14-2-3, 6 KO’s) at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. ONE Championship, a Singapore based MMA and Kickboxing promotional company and one of the premier mixed martial arts promotions in the world is making a venture into the Asian boxing scene. The signing of Rungvisai is quite a coup given the popularity of Srisaket not only in Thailand, but throughout Asia. The Rungvisai – Diaz bout will be the headline of ONE Championship’s “Kingdom of Hereos” card and will feature not just boxing, but Muay Thai and MMA bouts as well.
